The Coinbase Site Crashes After Displaying An Ad During Super Bowl

This year, Valentine’s Day wasn’t that romantic at Coinbase headquarters. 

Those who watched the NFL’s Super Bowl could see an ad promising a gift of $15 in Bitcoin for signing up on Coinbase. The traffic driven to the Coinbase website thanks to this ad was so massive, that the site crashed for a couple of minutes.

Chief Product Officer at Coinbase Tweeted that, on that day, the website received more traffic than ever before.

Ironically, although the news about the ad attracted a lot of attention on social media, the ad was only partially efficient. It turns out that it made the greatest impact in the market segment that is not particularly interested in buying crypto.
