Although stalled at first, due to rumors that the accounts of Ukrainian officials on Twitter might have been hacked, the donations started pouring really quickly to Ukrainian government’s crypto wallets.
Yesterday, the total ammount of donations was $9 million, reaching $20 million today, according to data review by Elliptic. The Ukrainian Ethereum account holds the biggest share ($6M), followed by Bitcoin ($4.2). According to available data, some of the largest donations in the crypto community came from FTX founder and philanthropist Sam Bankman-Fried, who sent $250,000 in USDT, and Chain.com CEO Deepak Thapliyal, who donated $277,000 in ETH.
Binance, currently in the spotlight for refusing to freeze Russian accounts on the platform, announced a $10 million worth crypto donation and launched a crowdfunding portal, inviting its users to join the initiative.
Another $3M was raised during the weekend, by a DAO formed by Russian art collective Pussy Riot.
Ukrainain army has had a wallet for crypto donations since summer 2021, receiving $6 million in crypto so far.
