Soon after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine started, the crypto community began taking action to support Ukrainian people. Several DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) are being launched to help those affected by the invasion.

Nadya Tolokonnikova, a Russian activist and the founder of Pussy Riot conceptual protest art group, announced Ukraine DAO, in collaboration with PleasrDeo and Trippy Labs.

According to Tolokonnikova, the goal is to help civilians suffering in the ongoing war in Ukraine. The Ukraine DAO will be buying the NFT of the Ukrainian flag in an act of solidarity. “It is not about any specific artists or aesthetics, it is about something much bigger than all of us”, says Tolokonnikova.

The idea to make Ukraine DAO originally came from Alona Shevchenko, a Ukrainian activist currently residing in England. Hoping to contribute to relieving the consequences of war in Ukraine, she contacted Pussy Riot and other activist organizations, the results of which is a joint effort to mint Ukrainian flag NFTs on Ethereum, and contribute the NGO Proliska and Return Alive Foundation in their efforts to help civilians. Another unique flag NFT will also be released, allowing larger contributions as well.

Pussy Riot is a punk rock group, known for public support for LGBT rights and opposing Putin’s regime.

Meanwhile, Trippy Labs is a digital artist from California, and PleasrDAO is a digital artist collective, focused on obtaining culturally significant art pieces for the purpose of charity.
