The online shopping giant, Shopify, is launching NFT-gated storefronts. This new feature is aimed at brands who are looking to make their stores more exclusive.

Token holders connect their crypto wallets in order to be eligible for exclusive shopping opportunities. These include everything from “early access to drops and limited collections to one-of-a-kind experiences and other surprises”, as stated in the Shopify announcement video.

Shopify’s GM (gated merch) shop is currently in beta. Only buyers with existing NFT collections can apply for early access to the GM shop. However, even buyers who aren’t already approved can add an NFT token-gating app, such as Single or Shopthru, to their Shopify storefront.

Apart from the online token-gating, Shopify will also be adding token-gating at real-life stores. Only eligible NFT holders will be able to purchase select merchandise in these stores.

Shopify has partnered with NFT collections including Doodles, Adam Bomb Squad, and Invisible Friends, in order to create token-gated storefronts.

This isn’t the e-commerce’s giant first venture into NFTs. Namely, Shopify has already enabled brands to mint and sell NFTs on Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, or Flow.
